Student mentors 2012

Featured above are our student mentors for this year. These Upper Sixth students were there at induction day, along with other helpers, and each met with a group of students who were new to the Sixth Form.
The mentors will be there , especially in the first few weeks, to make sure new students quickly find their way around and to help them meet others and make new friends. Many thanks to the mentors for volunteering to support the new Lower Sixth students.

What's coming up?

We have an excellent programme of social events coming up for students this term. Following on from the barbecue last Thursday we have punting and a picnic this week. Pictured above are students enjoying a previous punting trip.

Also coming up is a visit to Thorpe Park, a visit to watch Chicago at the New Theatre , a movie night and a visit to the Clothes Show at the NEC. We will also be going to several sports fixtures this term including an Oxford United match, Oxford University playing rugby and an Oxford Blues v Oxford Stars hockey match.

And don't forget the Winter Concert on Tuesday 27 November at the Jacqueline du Pre Music Building - remember to put this in your diary and come and see some fantastic student performances.

Welcome to the new academic year!

Monday was the first day of the new academic year and we have already got off to a busy and exciting start in the Sixth Form. We were delighted to welcome over 130 Lower Sixth students arriving to meet their Director of Studies and the Head of Departments, and find out more about the year ahead.

Helping them find their way around were over 30 student helpers from the Upper Sixth including the Student Mentors, each of whom works with a group of new students in their first few weeks making sure they settle in easily. The rest of the Upper Sixth returned in the afternoon and teaching for all students started on Tuesday.

Looking back on the activities last year it is amazing to see how much was achieved  such as the excellent exam results , the trip to Namibia, the ski trip, Young Enterprise,  the numerous competitions and awards (from poetry to the Maths Olympiad), the  drama productions,  the charity fund raising and the departmental visits such as trips to Berlin and Salamanca ; all of which led to a very positive and productive year.

However, this is not time to stand still and already we are looking ahead to events such as the Winter Concert, the  College musical- Les Miserables- and the trip to Iceland next year!
